Things To Do

Max was originally created to get boys and girls to read.

However he has also been used to inject a bit of fun into the classroom and to get young people to be creative.  Why not have a go at some of the activities here and bust your boredom.

1. Draw All Over Your Book!

Buy a copy of our newly created PDF format book.  Max and the Suspicious Green Gooey Thing has been tagged. Why not print out a chapter and do a few of your own illustrations around the edge to liven things up a bit.

Another person who likes to draw on books is Alan Aldridge, he is the chap who designed all the album covers for the Beatles. You can see some of Alan's work here.

2. Colourise our movable buttons

Have a go at winning a copy of our book.  All you have to do is email us your coloured in versions of our black and white buttons.  As soon as we receive a set of images we like we will upload them onto our site and post you out your free book. While stocks last we will also endeavour to give out postcards to all who email us some images.

Can you colour in? On our homepage we have three rollover buttons that are black and white. It would be nice if they were colour!  Use The Gimp which is a free open source program to add colour to the buttons.  There are lots of free Gimp Tutorials on You Tube which will show you how to add colour to your artwork.

3. Web Banner Competition

Design a web banner similar to the ones we have on our agents page and you could win a copy of Max and The Suspicious Green Gooey Thing.  You can use a mixture of hand drawn and scanned images to create a multi layered animated web banner.

Dont worry it doesnt have to cost you anything.  All you need is a copy of The Gimp which is a free open source application for editing photographs and digital images.  There is a fantastic YouTube tutorial here that will help you get started.

If you want to go one step further and distribute the banner across the Internet you will get a percentage of the sales that you generate.  Please contact us to discuss terms and conditions.

4. Design a Font Competition

We like to use a large capital letter at the start of each of our chapters, this is to add interest and style to our pages.

However we think that the font we are using is too plain.  Why not create a font that has added Rat Appeal.  Perhaps the Rats could be building the letters using chainsaws and scaffolding, or the Rats could be trying to destroy the letters using dynamite and axes, the choice is yours. Be creative and try to come up with something different that we could use and you will win a copy of our first publication "Max and the Suspicious Green Gooey Thing".

5. A clay or fabric frame

When illustrating the book edges why not go a step further and make some models in either clay, fabric or plasticine.  You might use this to frame one of your favourite pages.  Be as creative as you can and send us a photo.  We will send you something in return.

6. Create a computer game

Scratch is a fabulous open source project that is used in a lot of schools to get children to learn how to program.  Something that is sadly lacking in the majority of UK schools as it is one of the few parts of I.C.T that can actually be FUN and requires a degree of brain cell bashing and persistence to make the difference between an average job and a stunningly fun one.

Once you have downloaded Scratch and learned how to use it why not have a go at producing an animated Max game.  Use your imagination as you will have to create scenery and write the script!

7.  Design a Max board game

Using the characters from the book design a board game.  Try to come up with as many disgusting scenarios as possible.  You never know you might end up with a runaway commercial success.

However the main thing is to have FUN, use what ever creative medium you feel happy with, be it PC with design software or simply some colour pencils and a bit of creativity.

However he has also been used to inject a bit of fun into the classroom and to get young people to be creative.  Why not have a go at some of the activities here and bust your boredom.

8. Coders and Java script writers competition

Make some code that will automatically insert an agents username into the order page of our shop at the click of one of our web banners or associate program buttons.

Be the first person to do this and you will win a copy of our book.

9.  Have a class competition

Why not have a go at doing a class competiton for some of the above catagories.

As we like to encourage creativity you will qualify for a generous discount on books should you wish use them as prizes.
